URL rewrites are an extremely useful tool for retaining your site's Google rankings and ensuring users never see a 404 page when they visit your site.

URL rewrites are used to send a user to another page instead of their original destination. This would be used when you have finished a campaign and disabled the page on your website; however, the link could still be out there on the internet.

Instead of users finding that link and ending up on a 404 page, we can implement a URL rewrite that would send them to a new page instead.

Setting up URL rewrites are simple. Start by navigating to the Site Settings area of the CMS listed on the left-hand side menu:

From there, click into the URL rewrites area on the secondary menu:

Once you're on the URL rewrite screen you will want to fill in the following fields:

Old URL: This will be the page that no longer works on your site
New URL: This is where users will be sent if they try to access the Old URL mentioned above

Please Note: For URL rewrites you do not need to put your site address at the start, Vennture will do this automatically. (see below)

In the image above you can see that we have setup a rewrite so that any user who tries to access /industries/gas-and-coal will instead be sent to the /industry page

When you're happy with the links you can click the "Add rewrite" button to activate it.

Publishing URL Rewrites:

Now that our URL rewrite has been setup the last thing to do is publish them out to the site. URL rewrites do NOT automatically publish out when created.

URL rewrites have their own publish function separate from the full site publish feature. These buttons can be found at the bottom of the URL rewrite screen as shown below:

Once published, your rewrite will typically become active immediately however in some cases it may take up to 15 minutes. If you find that after 15 minutes your URL rewrite is still not working please contact our support team.

Removing a URL Rewrite

In the event you need to remove a URL rewrite, this can be done by clicking the remove checkbox shown below and clicking the "Save & Update" button. Once a rewrite has been removed, it will require a republish to update on your live site.
